Paxton Presbyterian Church
Custom Steel Safety Railings - Harrisburg, PA
In 2007, KBM Industries was invited to collaborate on a meaningful project that would become a standout example of both craftsmanship and community connection. The leadership at Paxton Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was preparing for an expansion project to better serve its growing congregation and enhance accessibility and safety throughout the historic property. As part of this expansion, KBM was entrusted with the design, fabrication, and installation of custom metal railings for both the church’s interior and exterior spaces.
This opportunity marked more than just another project for our team—it was the beginning of an ongoing relationship with a community institution that shares our values of integrity, heritage, and quality workmanship. With deep respect for the architectural character of the church, our team worked closely with the project's design and construction teams to ensure that every element of our metalwork blended seamlessly with the aesthetic and structural vision for the expanded space.
The interior railings, which serve both functional and decorative purposes, were fabricated from high-grade steel and finished with a catalyzed paint to provide long-term durability and a polished appearance. The choice of catalyzed paint was intentional—selected for its strong resistance to wear and its ability to maintain its sheen and color in high-traffic interior areas. This ensured the railings not only supported the flow and safety of visitors moving through the building but also added a timeless, elegant touch to the sanctuary and adjoining spaces.
For the exterior, KBM designed and installed auxiliary railings finished in a powder coat using RAL 8019—a deep, warm brown tone that complements the church's exterior brickwork and grounds. Powder coating was chosen for its superior weather resistance, ensuring the railings would maintain their integrity and appearance through Pennsylvania’s changing seasons. The application of this specific RAL color was an important detail, adding a cohesive look that feels both classic and inviting to congregants and visitors alike.
Over time, the railings have become more than just fixtures of the church grounds—they've become quiet ambassadors of our work. Several members of the congregation, impressed by the quality and style of the railings at the church, have since invited KBM to fabricate and install railings for their own homes. You can now find our handrails lining walkways and entry steps of neighborhood homes around Harrisburg—each one a small extension of the original church project and a reflection of the trust we’ve built within the community.
Projects like this represent the heart of what we do at KBM Industries. It's not just about fabrication—it's about contributing to places that matter. By combining practical engineering with thoughtful design, we’re able to create metalwork that supports both safety and beauty, often in spaces that carry deep personal and community significance.
The Paxton Presbyterian Church project remains one of our most cherished collaborations. It stands as a testament to the enduring quality of our metalwork, the importance of community partnerships, and our commitment to excellence in every project—large or small. At KBM, we take great pride in the fact that our work helps support the mission and longevity of institutions like Paxton, and we look forward to many more years of service, craftsmanship, and connection.
